Anger is not a primary emotion. If you stop and think about it, anger is not usually the first emotion you feel when you get upset. It’s actually secondary.

Session 2: Personal Responsibility and Emotions

As we’ve discovered, every man and women will encounter situations that make us angry. This began in the Garden of Eden and will continue for as long as we are in this world. The question is what will you do with your anger? Where will you allow your anger to take you? Or will you take control of your anger? In this second lesson, we’ll explore some of the basic needs of both men and women in a marriage and how meeting these needs can diffuse anger and invite forgiveness and love into the relationship.

 Session 3: The Spirit of Forgiveness

Every marriage has conflict and issues that need to be worked through. The question is how do you and your spouse respond with conflict arises? Do you find yourself offering forgiveness and moving on? Or do you find yourself harboring unspoken resentment and anger?

Forgiveness is more than just letting a grudge go. Real forgiveness happens not just when we don’t harbor anger or resentment, but when we actually move toward wanting to bless the other person. One of the best definitions of forgiveness I’ve ever heard is simply this: Forgiveness is me giving up the right to hurt you for hurting me. But better, I want to help you, not get even.

Some things may seem beyond forgiveness, but the truth is that nothing is beyond God’s redemption and forgiveness. No matter what your spouse has done and no matter how difficult your spouse may seem, you can forgive. It comes down to choice.
